The Resort

Rancho Rancho is a vacation resort, but a special type of vacation resort. Of course, there is the well known laid back Southern California fun-in-the-sun aspect. Outdoor activities await where you enjoy the peaceful countryside and fresh air with hiking and horseback riding around the property and on bordering parkland. Art installations enhance the environment. They are large and small, some designed to hold rapt attention, others inviting interactivity. But this is also a place created by and for thinking, forward-minded people.

Upon arrival, guests receive a short orientation, then go about enjoying their vacation. Interesting green-tech cabins populate the grounds. Learning and growth experiences abound, with sustainable horticulture techniques demonstrated on the property, and interesting explanatory workshops part of the guest experience. In addition to great locally-sourced food, fun and games and swimming, we host excursions to other nearby attractions, and there are opportunities to engage in creation of artistic expression.

The Cabins

Most of the cabins are built using tiny home techniques. For simplicity, we refer to all guest accommodations as “cabins,” regardless of their actual structural type. All are generously equipped and house two to four people comfortably. Up the hillside can be seen some of the larger accommodations; earthships, hobbit holes, large campsites with colorful shade structures, a huge treehouse, as well as yurts, tipis, and artistically-ornamented containers. Campers and motor homes brought by guests can also be seen at the hookups dotting the property.

Wifi is available in all cabins, as is a kitchenette or kitchen, a full bath, living/dining areas, and comfortable bedding. A display in each cabin provides up-to-the-minute activity, transportation, and entertainment schedules. Cabins are lit inside and out by LEDs and are maintained by expert housekeepers. Footpaths connect groupings of cabins in discrete areas we refer to as “camps.” Each camp has a theme of its own and features, at a minimum, a fire pit, BBQ, ample seating, and shade. Booking entire camps is ideal for larger groups of guests who wish their lodgings to be in close proximity to one another.

The Grounds

Though less than an hour from the Los Angeles airport, Rancho Rancho is a world away. The setting is rural, with mountains visible not far off, a few fluffy clouds lolling about in a brilliant blue sky, and soft breezes blowing through the trees that dot the property, giving life to the merrily colored banners, and carrying scents of oranges, colitas, sage, and fragrant flowers. Our 200 acre property is not far from Hollywood. Many Westerns have been filmed in this area, which is known for its beauty and diverse landscapes.

Rancho Rancho abuts public land managed by the Federal Government. It is open wilderness and hiking trails abound. Wildlife includes coyotes, bobcats, many species of birds, and lizards. They are shy and avoid contact with humans so you must be quiet and observant to see them.

Most days are pretty, sunny, not too hot, not too cold.

The Pool

Central to the Rancho Rancho’s fun-in-the-sun ethos is our natural pool. We built this pool to replicate those country ponds of a bygone era, with dragonflies darting about through the reeds, and frogs loafing among the lily pads. Natural ecosystems in the pool contribute to its cleanliness. Under the care of the ranch, the pool represents humanity’s symbiotic relationship with nature. Of course, the swing, slide, and nearby hot tub are also great amenities. And, as with most places at the ranch, guests can order from the Bistro for poolside delivery.

Other Activities

A bit of dust floats up over the short dirt road behind the electric-powered Rancho Van bringing the ranch’s newest guests from the airport. This same van ferries guests on excursions outside the Ranch. Destinations vary seasonally and include beautiful beachs, wineries, amusement parks, museums, an old West ghost town, mines, and other sustainable communities in the region.
